EHRC 4: Steering
Cartoon Description
A large green painted ship is weaving an erratic course across
the ocean. The name ‘SS EHRC’ is swinging from a single
fixing on the stern of the ship revealing its original name
‘Titanic’. There is a large ship’s wheel up on the bridge which is
turning too and fro with no-one steering. The cabin under the
bridge is full of people, as is the forward deck. They represent
different racial characteristics and gender. An Asian man in a
beige suit is diving off of the stern of the ship with a white life
belt around his waist. In the water are several other people
supported by lifebelts and bobbing around in the ship’s wake.
On the stern deck there is Jane Campbell in her electric
wheelchair wearing a white and red spotted head scarf in the
style of a pirate. She is also wearing her red and ermine gown.
Alongside of her sits Bert Massie in his self propelled wheel
chair wearing a brown suit. He has a large black pirate’s hat on
his head with a white skull and cross bones on it. One of his
spectacle lenses has been blacked out to represent an eye
patch and he is holding a cutlass. Jane is saying to him: “You
reckon this is the moment to make our move Bert?!”
