Social Model 4: Theory
Cartoon Description
A large tower with battlements along the top and cross slit
windows in its wall sits isolated in the landscape. Written on it is
the slogan ‘Ivory Tower’. A large flag is hanging above a mixed
crowd of older disabled people on the top of the tower. The flag
has the message ‘Social Model rules!’ printed on it. The older
people, who represent a mixture of impairment, ethnic grouping
and gender, all have grey hair. One of them is waving a large
placard that reads: ‘Join the Disabled People’s Movement’. At
the base of the tower are two young disabled people. One is a
white male using a self propelled wheelchair and the other is an
Asian boy using an elbow crutch. They’re both dressed in the
modern style, the wheelchair user having spiky purple hair. The
Asian youth is saying: “Now what are the old farts on about?!”
